Psychology Department

Assessment and counseling services are offered that help children and adolescents discover learning success.

Our psychologists offer a wide variety of assessment services to measure intellectual level, delineate learning problems and assess emotional status. Additionally, we offer family and individual child/adolescent psychotherapy to help families work together to solve problems.

Psychological Testing:

A certified school psychologist assesses your child's intellectual capability, visual and auditory processing skills, work habits, attentional focus, and social/emotional functioning. With parents’ permission, we ask your child's teachers how the child functions in school. When combined with educational testing results, we are able to offer parents a complete picture of their child. Through this process we identify strengths and weaknesses as well as offer recommendations. Testing is followed by a written report.

Intellectual Evaluation:

This testing by a certified school psychologist identifies the child's intellectual level only. The evaluation is followed by an abbreviated report.

Early Entry Evaluation:

Designed to help parents and schools understand a child’s readiness for success in kindergarten or first grade, the evaluation includes tests of cognitive ability, academic achievement, general knowledge and developmental skills. It is designed for school districts making early entry decisions for students. Includes a written report.

Classroom Observation Service:

At the request of the parent and with consent of school personnel, a certified school psychologist may make a visit to the child's classroom. First hand knowledge and understanding of the child's functioning and behaviors in the classroom are gained. This service is most helpful in generating recommendations that apply to the child's school life and learning. Consultation with school personnel following the observation is also available.

Consultation Services:

The consultation services are offered not only to review findings from the Psycho-educational Evaluation but to also provide a more in-depth discussion and plan of action that would be helpful to the child and family. It can be a useful transition from the evaluation to ongoing services for your child. It can also be used to discuss questions parents may have regarding their child's development.

Psychotherapy:

Individual and family counseling are offered by qualified professionals. Parents and children are partners in problem solution and work toward goals together. In many cases, your health insurance covers some or all of the cost of services. Call in advance to discuss insurance pre-authorization.
